CME Exchange Launches XRP Futures with $1.5M in Debut Trading Volume
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) introduced XRP futures trading on May 19, marking a significant milestone for the digital asset. First-day volume hit $1.5 million, with both standard and micro contracts seeing active participation.
Four standard contracts, each representing 50,000 XRP, traded at an average price of $2.40, accounting for $480,000 in theoretical volume. Micro contracts added another $1 million, with 106 contracts exchanged at 2,500 XRP per contract.
The cash-settled contracts use the CME CF XRP-Dollar Reference Rate as a benchmark, published daily at 3:00 PM UTC. This listing follows the CFTC’s classification of XRP as a commodity, further solidifying its position in regulated markets.
